Admissions

LIOS has been affiliated with Bastyr University as the School of Applied Behavioral Science since 1992. During this time, students in the LIOS program received their MA degrees from Bastyr, which is accredited through NWCCU. Recently Bastyr decided to end the 15 year relationship with LIOS due to a decision by NWCCU regarding a change in their interpretation of accreditation standards. LIOS and Bastyr will remain affiliated until June 2009 when all the current students will have completed their course work and received their degrees from Bastyr. In the meantime, LIOS will be exploring affiliations with other universities and hopes to obtain its own accreditation in due time. If you are interested in applying to the LIOS program, please call the Director of Admissions at 425.939.8124 for more information.

Master of Arts Degree Program Admission Requirements

As an applicant, you must have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university prior to admission. LIOS Admissions staff can provide you with recommendations for preparing for the open-book statistics exam.

The admission application process includes the following steps:

The application fee can be paid with a credit/debit card (Visa/MasterCard) either in person or by phone. Applications submitted after the deadline are considered late, and must be re-submitted with a $75 application fee. Please do not staple application materials.

Step 2: Complete the application essay and submit it with your admissions application. The application essay should be two to four typed, double-spaced pages, using a font size no larger than 12 points. Include a description of your educational and career goals; an assessment of your current leadership skills, potential and experience; an evaluation of your strengths as a learner and the challenges you foresee in completing the program; and an explanation of why and how you believe the Leadership Institute of Seattle program will meet your educational needs and goals. A resume or curriculum vitae may also be submitted in addition to the application essay, but it is not required.

Step 3: Submit one letter of reference from a job supervisor/mentor/faculty/LIOS graduate or current LIOS student who can best comment on your qualifications and readiness for the LIOS program. The letter of reference should follow the format indicated in the application material and should be mailed directly to LIOS from the person writing the letter of reference.

Step 4: Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning from which you received credit for your undergraduate degree. Official transcripts should be sent directly to LIOS or submitted along with your application in their original, sealed envelopes. Transcripts received in any other form will not be considered as official documents.

Step 5: Once you have submitted the application and we have all required materials, you will be scheduled for an admissions interview with the Director of Admissions. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of their academic background, recommendations, application essay, career and life experience, educational goals, sense of self (ego strength and personal authority), ability to self-correct, appropriate response to authority, response to feedback and group interactive skills, and personal interview. Admissions Policies and Information

  • Costs: For current information, check the Costs/Financial Aid section of our website or contact an admissions representative.
  • Schedules: If you are interested in applying and would like the current module schedules for either the fall or winter program, please request an information packet by completing the contact us form. You may also call 425.939.8100 for more information.
  • Rolling admissions: LIOS reviews applications as they are received until the upcoming class fills. When the class is full, accepted applicants are put on a waiting list and/or considered for the next program start date. Priority will be given to those applicants who have submitted all required materials prior to the deadline. Once admitted, students must submit a deposit to secure their spot in the class. Applicants who delay submitting the deposit risk losing their space in the class. Applicants who submit applications after the deadline may still be interviewed, but will be admitted on a space available basis. To be accepted to your preferred program, we encourage you to apply early.
