Mr. Leahy graduated from Washington State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication Arts and Sociology. He received his Master’s in Applied Behavioral Science from Whitworth College. He has also completed the Art & Practice of Leadership Development program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

As President and Dean, Mr. Leahy has worked extensively on refining the Leadership Institute’s mission and vision to better meet the need for leadership development—across sectors and disciplines—that responds more effectively to the complex issues facing our region. He has demonstrated expertise in establishing and sustaining alliances and collaborative partnerships in his advancement of LIOS’ evolving relationship with Bastyr University, and his consultancies with many local and regional community projects.

A life-long resident of Washington, Mr. Leahy has consistently placed his expertise in leadership theory and action at the service of his community. He works on an ongoing basis with numerous community organizations and individuals.

Mr. Leahy finds his greatest personal and professional rewards in advising individuals and organizations on strategies for dealing with seemingly hopeless or daunting issues. He believes that the essence of leadership development lies in guiding individuals and organizations toward the discovery of methods, internal and external, to meet—effectively and productively—ongoing challenges.
